Necessity of National Health and Nutrition Survey in Korea with Changing Disease Pattern of Koreans

Abstract
Disease pattern of Koreans has changed remarkably since the end of 1970's owing to consecutive implementation of 5-year economic development plan; mortality and morbidity from infectious diseases are gradually replaced by chronic degenerative
diseases,
of which proportion among total number of death has increased from 28.5% in 1974 to 75.9% in 1990. On the other hand, National Nutrition Survey consist of dietary intake survey by household unit(not individual) has been carried out every
three-year
since 1969 without much revision.
Thus in this paper an extent of diet associated chronic degenerative diseases is reviewed along with their changing patterns in relation to socioeconomic development.
It is concluded that the strikingly increased diet associated chronic degenerative diseases strongly indicate the necessity of national health and nutrition survey step by step.
